Neurokognitive Therapie NKT (Neuro-cognitive therapy)

NKT was developed in Germany by Dr. Eckehard Wüst and was successful in the treatment of Morbus Bechterew. According to an apparently recovered patient he was successful also in at least one Parkinson’s case. In addition I know about a second patient who underwent Dr. Wüst's therapy but I have lost contact to both patients of Dr. Wüst.

In spring 2000 I went to Munich and spent a week with NKT. Dr. Wüst had me searching with imagination and visualization in the central nervous system the primary focus as he named the traumatic impact. I was lying in analytic tradition on the couch and was guided in a trancelike state. The therapist guided me through cognitive transformation of time on the time line back in search of the traumatic response of the nervous system. The injury, a severe concussion at age 12, was found immediately. But the neutralization and dissolution of the primary focus would have been a hard experience through heights and lows of emotions that are difficult to approach by the Parkinson’s patient and would have lasted longer than a week only. At least that was the information I had got from that patient, who claimed to be cured by Dr. Wüst’s neuro-cognitive therapy.

The work by imagination and visualization was the element that was promising. But there was a lot of cognition involved and that was the main reason, that prevented me from continuing this therapy. The analytic setup and the fact that the “recovered” patient was not available were not supporting trust either. After a week I went home and did not return to Munich.

Five years later I discovered Lifespan Integration, a potent trauma therapy method developed by Peggy Pace (www.lifespanintegration.com). NKT has a certain affinity to Lifespan Integration as both work with imagination and visualization and a timeline for the integration of the traumatic event. In contrast to Lifespan Integration, which works consequently on the sensorimotor level, NKT is quite a cognitive therapy.
